Needles

Size U.S. 6 (4 mm): set of 4 or 5 double-pointed (dpn).

Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions

Markers (m); stitch holder; tapestry needle.

Gauge

20 sts and 32 rnds = 4" (10 cm) in k3, p1 rib worked in rnds, slightly stretched so p1 columns appear 1 st wide; 19 sts of lace panel from strasburg chart measure 31⁄2" (9 cm) wide.

Notes

To adjust arm length, work more or fewer repeats of the 16-round lace pattern before starting the thumb gusset; every repeat added or removed will lengthen or shorten the piece by about 2" (5 cm).

To make leg warmers, omit the thumb gusset and add more 4-stitch repeats of the k3, p1 rib pattern to increase the circumference as necessary. Every 4 rib stitches added or removed will increase or decrease the circumference by about 3⁄4" (2 cm).
